Hi there.
I have a large property 3 hours west of brisbane and over the years i havent been able to keep the termites from eating my wood! All my efforts of creosote, sump oil etc have all been in vain.. they are hungry buggers out there and seem to go to all extremes to get to some food. hardwood or pine doesnt matter! they eat the lot

i am in the planning stages of building a small (6x3) enclosed self standing deck.. similar to a gazebo i suppose..
i am trying to do things on the cheap, and therefore steel is out of the question due to price, and workability of it out there with no power!

i once went over an old bushies house and noticed he had his table legs sitting in 4 old bake bean cans filled with sump oil... Upon enquiring, he informed me that it kept the ants off his bloody food... which gave me an idea to keep termites out of my wood.

I will sink my galvanisted stirrups into a concrete footing. make up some cups that i will sikaflex around the "posts" of the stirrups and fill it with sump oil..

my theory in this is that the termites sure as hell wont bridge a gap over the top of a cup full of sump oil?? What do you rekon?

I head out there every few weeks so topping up the sump oil wont be a big deal.

Please find attached a diagram of what i am planning..

I would appreciate anyones suggestions... improvements.. comments.. or critism

Thanks.
