How to remove big permapine posts
I am in the process of demolishing a fernery constructed by the previous owner and am replacing it with an inground swimming pool I am building myself.
For the uprights, he used stout poles about 7' long, embedded in concrete which will not move a single mm if you belt them with a mallet.
Other than digging them all out by hand (7), which dosen't appeal - could I perhaps pull them out with a rope and my Pajero?
I need to get them out of the way so that I can level and mark the ground for when the excavator man comes around to dig the hole.

Well, I did it, but I'm not sure the Pajero will ever be the same again.

At least it was quick ....
Couldn't the excavator man dig them out when he was digging the pool?

yes he could, but to mark it out properly and level out some of the ex fernery beds, the poles (dotted all over the show) needed to go before he comes - I don't want to keep him hanging around while I try and get the thing marked up square and level.
Pajero: unspeakable smell of burning engine parts coming from exhaust.

KI, mate and there's only one left which I haven't trampled to death (it wasnt a great fernery anyway), its a pretty big palm but to my mind the frond type is a bit spindly looking and I doubt it could be got out with sufficient roots in tact. You could have it for free if you wanted it but you could probably get a better one 'new for less money than it would cost to collect from here plus there is a high chance it wouldnt survive.

I'm with stinkalot, use your excavator mate, just wrap a chain around the post shackle it to the lifting lug near the bucket and lift. Then the operator can level out the site for you , then while your squaring off the site he can sit back and have a lovely cup of tea. No need to make life any harder than it is.

Don't be so hard on yourself. It'll only take you 5 minutes, get the operator to hold the dummy end of the tape.
