What to do with 2 chopped Gum Trees?
Please give me some advices on what to do with 2 chopped gum trees. The measurement of one tree is 600cm long with a diameter of 70cm. The other one is similar in size. I can cut it into small pieces for future landscape gardening. Alternatively, do you think there is a market to sell the whole pieces to timber factory?

What to do
Raywip, You may need to include a bit more detail to get decent advise. Its sounds like a good size log (millable) however what type of gum (theres 100's I understand), a photo may help ID it. I doubt/ know comercial mills will/ won't be interested in logs from private property (foriegn material ie. fences, nails ect in log and too expensive to pick up 1 or 2 logs.) Theres sure to a portable mill around Sydney (and on this forum)that may be interested. Depending on the species, the miller will cut for free if he keeps the wood or even pay you if its a sort after timber up to $150 m3 (log dimension) If you want the timber, he'll have a $/m3 rate. Appreciate that its anyones guess as to what its like inside and $ may need to be adjusted if theres rot or a grub has eaten a spirolling track through it. All the best, Kel

Stumpkicker, thanks for your valuable advices. The species are Corymbia Citriodora, commonly known as Lemon-Scented Gum or Blue Spotted Gum. I live in Sydney metro area. The condition of the trees are good as they were assessed by Aborist. I don't want to cut the trees as they were so beautiful. Unfortunately, we have to do it to make way for a driveway. It costs more a fortune to cut the trees. If I can sell them to recover some of the costs, then it will be very grateful. I have to make a decision tomorrow. If I can sell it, then the tree removal guy said he can cut the trees into half, approx 3 metres long and I will leave it in my front yard. Thanks Ray.

Haven't left yourself much time to research your options. Seems like you've got a nice log there, IF you can locate a miller who will pay you for the log, and if you can get some $ off the price for leaving the log, and if you've got space to store them for say a month I'ld keep them full length ie 6m and on styes up off the ground. Worst case is after a month of no takers, you hire a chainsaw and cut them into firewood, put them on the curb with a sign "free firewood". Search in the milling forum, next one down, for local millers.

If 700mm is the diameter in the middle of the log and not the butt then there's about 2.3 cube in each log. A good cubic rate is $80 per, since there's a good chance there's metal in the log you mightn't get that much

changing txtWell Lemon-scented is a lovely timber Ray - usually a wide darker band down the middle [with the ones I've milled anyway] I'm too far away to help out there, and your neighbours might never speak to you again either by the time I'd finished
Good sizes too. They'd be nice slabs and better boards. haven't seen much "one inch" grub in it either. [one of the longicorns I think] Best way to get some of those greedy tree-fellers $$ back is to get it milled and on-sell it as log prices ain't huge. But that can be a waiting game too, and storage can be a problem in the 'burbs - you'd best buy a set of japanese chisels and learn the game...join us. It's my drug of choice. Can keep you up all night!

This is my first time to ask a question in a forum and the answers I received from all you guys are so helpful. I am very appreciated your effort. As I know little about the timber industry, the advices I received give me insight on how to deal with the gum trees. Thanks.
The tree removal guy cut the logs into 6 pieces with approx. 200cm long and 70cm diameter each. He left all the logs into my front yard. I will try to put the logs for sale through internet. I hope someone will interest to buy them. Otherwise, I have to start learning the art of using a chainsaw. Thanks. Ray.

Dock each 2 metre length into 3.
Split each into 4 quarters.
Stack and dry till next winter.
Invite us around to your place.
We will sit round the fiire and drink your beer and get to know each other.
OR
Chainsaw practice -
slab 2 off them into 100mm thick slabs then face them up getting rid of the sap.
Chainsaw the 3rd butt into 4 x 500mm long butts and sit slabs on them
Walla - 2 x Bench Seats.
Then we can sit around your fire in comfort.
