You could PM Burnsy, he may have some left over. I know he milled some a while ago.

look in the Quokka(local classifieds paper that comes out on Thursdays) or any decent salvage yard should have a small piece like that. Should only cost 15 or 20 bucks.

Diggers and Dealers in Karrakatta have loads of old Jarrah.

Actually, a lot of the Jarrah is actually Karri, so if you definitely want Jarrah make sure you know how to tell them apart.

Burn a splinter. If it burns to ash, it's not Jarrah.

I suppose one could buy it, test it and if the goods are not as described, return for a refund. Testing a sliver from the end should not be an issue, especially after you've bought it!

The Trade Practices Act requires goods to be as described, the dealer has no choice regarding the refund. The test, as I described it, is definitive.

Ivor - if you get really stuck give me a toot. I've got a collection of ~120x70x850 fence posts if you've got some wiggle room on the size, along with some 100x50 roofing beams. But I'd imagine the salvage yards should have a healthy range of 100x50s you could laminate.

This is a bit pendantic but I am resorting a 100-150 yo jarrah wardrobe and the feet were originally turned from solid bits of wood and laminating is not an option.

I'll try your suggestions but someone said Gunns was an option, I didn't know they were trading over there. But then again Bunnings has been over here for years

How big are the feet?!

They are 100 mm in diameter and about 200 mm long. I was wanting a metre so they could be all turned in one go

Ivor, I'm not an experienced turner, but I don't think you'll get a 100mm dia piece from a 100mm sq post, in theory and on paper yes, but not in my practicing???

Thanks Sigidi, on the strength of that I went and measured the one leg I have got and it is 90mm diameter not the 100 that I recalled.

I think I have run out of places to ring and nowhere has that size of jarrah and it looks like I'll have do some laminating, so the legs won't be authentic. I suppose the next step might be to try a few salvage yards.

Did you try Burnsy as suggested? He did have some lying around a while back - freshly milled, but still 100x100.

Otherwise, my fencepost offer stands, and they have fewer nail holes than most roofing beams you would get from salvage. Laminating shouldn't be a serious issue if you do it well - the join line should be almost invisible.
