    Default Australian Red Cedar.

I have quite a bit of Aust Red Cedar in my garage.
My days of woodworking are over...no desire anymore to swallow saw dust.

I can see it could be appreciated by forum members here.

Can anybody help me with some sort of price guide?
Per super foot or whatever....I would like it sold but I know it's valuable.
    Thanks.

You might want to post pics and give a rough idea of sizes and quality.

    Boards on saw stools are 180mm x 25mm....3.0 to 4.2 m lengths.
    Timber in racks is approx. 2.1m long....1/150mmx 100mm.....1/230mm x 75mm....100mm x 75mm..unsure of length.

I have lots of pieces all sizes (not large structural sizes) around 1m to 1.2m.

Any price guide would be appreciated before I unload the racks.
All top quality and certainly would discount for anything less than perfect.
    Thanks.

I can't put a value on it and I can't PM you within the forum due to you not reaching 10 posts. If wish to call Illawarra Woodworking School 0438510145 and speak to Stuart Montague he will help you out. I have spoken to him so he is aware that you may call but in the end that is up to you.

I have been told the commercial rate is $4000 per cubic metre.

At least I have a starting point.

Thanks for the reply...I'll call the woodworking school.

I have shelves bursting with some lovely timbers that a woodworking school would
    really appreciate.

$4000/m3 might be a rather good wholesale rate, in Victoria I've seen retail of up to $10-15,000/m3. You've got what you've got and can't offer someone their choice of sizes so you'd have to be at the cheaper end of things but $4000/m3 sounds very cheap to me.

It is a brave man that will put a flat rate on Cedar. The value is dependent on many factors...Size, colour, grain, all play a part and all set a premium.
Yes, your $4000 /m3 is a starting price but that is all it is.

Agreed, and some red cedar isn't worth much if it has been stored poorly for a long time as it may not be very workable, and be crumbly.

I was looking for some ARC a while ago and I got laughed at when I said it was worth around $4K a cube. Way way too much. Everyone thinks it's valuable but in the end it is really only worth as much as someone will pay for it - size colour etc are all big factors

It comes down to who you know and what you've got. Timber trading can be quite lucrative if these two factors have been addressed.
It's been a long time since I have traded cedar for as low as $4K. Just saying.
