Bamboo....carbonised edge laminated
I have been reading about this stuff for making the ribs in a skin on frame kayak. My problem is trying to find it in Australia.can any one shed some light on where I can get it ? I need strips about 25mm wide and 6mm thick to steam bend. The guy in the states on this site gets his as a ply sheet 1200x2400 and just rips it.Thanks for the help.Tim

Just head up the pacific highway Tim and past about Kempsy you will start to see giant bamboo in big clumps in the paddocks. Most of the farmers are only too happy to see some of it get used for a good purpose. Failing that, blunneys is selling sticks of giant bamboo. Wonderful material. Don't forget to post a photo when you get the kayak done.

Thanks Len. I know where I can get some big stuff in Sydney also. But I was hoping for the edge laminated ply. I wonder if the real deal would be stronger?
