Default Bloodwood old or new burl??

Saw this in a park today on a Bloodwood tree diameter ~500mm. It does not protrude from the tree at all, basically dead flat.

Not sure if it is a well healed burl that was previously sliced off, or a new burl just starting to form, my thoughts lead towards the latter.

    Any ideas experts?

Did you have one of those flexible sewing tape measures?

You can start taking and recording the measurements.

Burls like that are caused by mosquito bites to the sap!

Sewing tape?? That sign is 600mm long

It may be worth taking some measurement, just it is dead flat at the moment.

I think that you will find that this is a old pruning cut that has calloused over as it is common to have a black mark down the centre of callouses wood on trees.

Looks cancerous, I think you should cut it out.
