    Default Bunya pine

    We milled a fair-sized bunya yesterday. About 850 diameter and 3m or so long. We got 48 215x25s out of it, including some nice quarter-sawn boards and 2 215x50s as well as the shoulders of the log, which are about 150+ .
    Really good grain figure

    We still have 10 logs to go. Now, apart from just bragging , the reason for the post is that I'm open to both offers and advice for these boards and the rest of the logs. Should I be maximising yield on the quarter, or should I also cut a few on the back? This stuff is like a good loaf of bread to cut, with absolutely no apparent tension in the log at all, so it doesn't matter much. Also, is anyone interested in the stuff just off the heart, which has some encapsulated juvenile wood knots.It's quite pretty, almost a birdseye effect, but I doubt it'll be stable.

    Has anyone had any experience drying bunya? Any special tips or tricks?

    Photos are coming, as soon as I get them shrunk.

    My experience with all softwoods is that they should be very well ventilated as they are seasoned, even to the extent of using fans.
    If this isn't done mold can very quickly gather and stain the timber with bluish and greyish patches.
    Backsawn boards will give a more interesting grain pattern.

    contact any guitar makers .i've suplied true quarter sawn timber 570mmx250mm being paid $ 1800 per cube has to be AAA quality though
    the buyer was cole clarke guitars in bayswater victoria

    not sure about bunya and blue stain.

    get what you can outa it.

    whats the figure like?

    would the boards with knots be any good for box making?

    It'll be well stickered, never fear, then put through the kiln. Blue-stain is not my friend. What I'm really looking for is info on kiln regimes and so on. With bunya quite a high-value timber for luthiers especially, I'd like to maximise the potential use for that market, so if any experts can give me some tips there I'd be very grateful.

    We have a few slabs of it at work, don't think any of them are cracked at all and they've just been sitting in the shade, no special protection.

    craig i'll get the details to you in the next few days so you can chat to him. i know he gets timber from up north so delivery isn't a prob just the quality. like he says he's anal about it but happy to pay the right price for the right timber . cheers
