Where to buy Jarrah in Perth?
Where's a good place to buy Jarrah in Perth? I'm after some thick/wide lengths 3-4" thick and up to 8" wide. Will be used to make the legs/base for a Jarrah slab table I am making. Jarrah slab is 2700x900x55mm. I'm thinking I may have to laminate some timber together to get the required sizes.
Regards
Glen.

Glen,
A few places I've been and know of in Perth:
Carbatec (in Balcatta)
Just Jarrah (just south of Armadale)
Worldwide Timber Traders (in Bibra Lake)
They all have websites in case you need further info for addresses, etc.Cheers, Craig

Glen,
You will currently find the sizes you are after at Gunns in the standard grade racks but the boards have been run from prime grade that was destined for the US. Guess who's stopped buying our very best jarrah due to a weak dollar.
I've picked up quite a large quantity in the last couple of weeks and most of the lengths are awesome quality.
ps: these are 30mm boards I'm talking about so you would need to laminate.
Alternatively you may like to go and see Bill King in Kenwick for slab sized sections.

...or a frog waiting for the fairy princess....
Could never understand why people in Perth would be asking where to buy Jarrah anyway

The link to the list of timbers is http://www.austim.com.au/species.htm, for some reason they make it difficult to find the list on the web site. I would have thought this was the most important page.
The best suppliers I have found in Perth so far, you will need to be able to machine the timber as it is only supplied as rough sawn. Whilst you are there they also have a great selection of samples at the front office that they let you take and keep.

You will find it very hard to buy 55 mm thick boards.Best to cut up smaller slab sections for the trestle ends which are normally cut at 60mm.
Trestle sections at less than about 45mm thickness tend to look too thin.
Another option would be to use recycled timber .You can often get 4 by 3 s from salvage yards and join them together.

This thread is old but still valuable, one of the first sources in Google for timber sales in Perth. If there are new info for better places to buy wood please post it.

Hey there,
Just another couple of names, Morgans in Spearwood/Naval Base (you'll find them in The yellow pages) and The Timber Bloke in Naval Base, you need to ring him as he isn't always at the yard (sorry no number ).
M & B sales has a fair range as well but I don't think they have any over 35mm but it wont hurt to ask.

lmao
And here we are 5 years later still whipping the dead horse..... and the last to cross the line is.......... wait for it he might just get up yet........ no the vet has officially declared him DEAD.....
One for recycled timber used to be fremantle timber traders down off of rockingham rd and another was jasons pallets in osborne park. don't know if either are still running but worth a try.I am told that sharpening handsaws is a dying art.... this must mean I am an artisan.
Get your handsaws sharpened properly to the highest possible standard, the only way they should be done, BY HAND, BY ME!!! I only accept perfection in any saw I sharpen.
