Ask Mapleman!
Beautiful grain pattern you have there but as for anything local
it's probably a matter of pot luck. Just hunt around the timber
suppliers.

Hi Dale,
You can get Birds eye Maple here in Vic. Some has very nice quilting in it as well as the Birds eye.

You could try Curly Marri, as long as you cut away some of the pitch holes. I recently posted this kist I build ...

Some nice timber there. Good alternatives if building something from scratch, but they wouldn't be good matches with something existing. Unless I could find an almost blonde section to match in color.
I don't know if I can sharpen my tools well enough for that Marri.…..Live a Quiet Life & Work with your Hands

You'll very likely need to to source good curly maple from the US or Canada. I've had excellent dealings with Gilmer Wood, Northridge Hardwoods, and Cook Woods. Gilmer in particular are outstanding, but if you email pics of what you're trying to match to any of them they'll generally go out of their way to help if they can. Ideally get your lengths worked out so you don't need to ship full boards. The postage costs aren't too bad if you can keep within Australia Post's limits (105cm length etc.), and the US vendors seem much more customer service orientated than most Australian timber places.
