Default Cypress pine - prevent weathering??

    G'day all,

Can you maintain the look of fresh cypress pine such that it doesn't weather to grey?
What do I need to apply? I'm looking to use it for the posts of an undercover area I'm planning. I've attached a photo to show what I'd ideally like it to look like permanently...

    Thanks for any advice,

    Darren, Melbourne.

    Question

Any top qualty outdoor coating with plenty of UV inhibitors should do the trick.

Feast and Watson's Weathershield springs to mind.

Cutek CD50 preservative oil has a range of stains which can be added to maintain the colour of the timber. Subsequent applications on an annual or biannual basis will keep it looking like new.

I am not sure if the cypress pine you are asking about is like the cypress here in the Alabama, US. If it is you may fined this helpful.

They are in the same family Cupressaceae but you have Taxodium where we have Callitris neither being proper cypress.

The difference between external and internal coatings / oils is that UV inhibiters are in the external ones.

some manufacturers claim that their clear has UV protectant in it and that's possible but basically the darker the tint the more UV they can get in there.

you may want to wash it down first with a wood clean type product before applying the fresh coating.
