    Default Deck waterproofing

    Deck waterproofing<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

    <o> </o>

    Hi,<o></o>

    <o> </o>

I am halfway through building a deck and have two questions:<o></o>

    1. I have decided to use deck oil for the deck waterproofing. Should I be oiling the underside of the deck boards before installing?<o></o>

    2. I am planning to paint the tops of the joists with an oil based primer. Should I be painting the entire underside of the deck, i.e. Sides of joist and bearers? Or should I be leaving them as raw timber?<o></o>

    <o> </o>

    Any comments will be appreciated.<o></o>

    Thanks.<o></o>

    Hi
The best way to waterproof a deck is to put a roof over it
Oiling the undeside of the decking and painting the sub floor framing, while not absolutly neccessary will prolong the life of the deck especialy if it has no roof.
