A few decades ago I scoured seed catalogs for new timbers to grow in shelterbelt plantings. Some success and failure has occurred. Jarrah for instance could not survive the first frost of winter. One species that has done well is Brown stringybark (e.baxteri) which is similar to grampian gum in form. Not sure if the timber is used much but had to mill a bit to see how it would go when part of a tree recently blew down. Does anyone in south east Aus. have any experience with this species?
