    Question European Ash.

    Hi all:
I am new to this forum ( and fairly new to woodcraft ) . I am looking for advice as to which locally available timber ( Western Aust / Perth region) has characteristics close to European Ash. Needed for construction of timber frame for veteran car bodywork..

When I am asked to make parts for restoring vintage cars I always use American Ash as it is way cheaper than the European. It is readily available from specialist timber suppliers. I have never found any Australian timber that comes close.

Maybe it's me, however if I was restoring a car, I would try to make it as authentic as possible.

I'd suggest that you google 'Derek Doak, the Timber Bloke' and pick his brains, as he may have what you are after
