I feel the earth . . move . . under my feet..
Dare-devil burl recovery today - when we found this one in summer the bank was still out near the roots but the river has flooded twice since and the bank is undercut about 2' with only about 5' past the burl - kept me on my toes I can tell you ! It's about 6m to the water and I didn't want to go swimming with that log
Got it all home OK plus an extremely good Red Olive Plum to boot
Last pic was our safety observer who watched the whole circus - the last thing you'd expect to see in the middle of winter but he seemed to be enjoying the sunny day - 5' Green tree snake.

Can you come and get the burl off the tree at my front gate for me? Its only 5 meters off the ground. But it taunts me every day when I come home.

Another good score... and a well planned one at that.

When we were first shown the tree we thought it was red-gum but the timber is not as rich a red as the stuff I'm familiar with from Vic'. Most of the other big trees along there are Coolibah but it's not as brown or hard as that usually is. For now it's just going to be 'Eucalypt burl'.

That would be too easy - doesn't grow around here
That stuff will have to wait a couple of years but I have spent the weekend sorting out flat stuff to see what I have enough of for whatever projects pop up. I might have to wait a bit longer than you apparently - the spiral cutter head I wanted has to be factory fitted so the machine that was already on it's way will go to some other lucky bugger
