Default figured gidgee - what is it wirth?

What would the going rate be for figured gidgee per KG, i'm talking size say 140mm wide x 250mm long x 100mm thick.

somewhere around 5 to 6 kgs, the figure is "middle of the road" - hard to explain, no I DON'T have pictures.

    I believe its dry?

    Regards
    Stevo

I used to pay $50,000 per cubic meter for figured stuff from a business that was cut and milled it and had stock year round. I never bought a full cubic meter of course, but that was the volumetric rate. I saw it for sale for as much as $75,000 per cube, but that guy was just making up prices. He didn't do any kind of math to actually determine the price, just "Yeah, how about sixty bucks" kind of thing, at which point I'd do the math in about twenty seconds and say "Yeah, nah".

Not sure about selling it by mass. That's not typically done.

I can tell that you didn't want anyone to say this, but... pictures would help.

    Good luck,
    Luke

As with many species, figure will be one the main determining factors regarding its worth.
Availability and utility are also critical factors in the equation.
Highly figured Gidgee is most sought after for knife/cutlery handles/fancy turnery, as most of us woodies already know
A very firm and durable timber that can display the most stunning fiddleback and colour at times.
    Certainly one of my favourites
I would think that it is worth what anyone is willing to pay...particularly pieces of exceptional beauty...MM

It all depends on the figure. I sold a 250 dia x 100 thick bowl blank from a forked Mulga that had pretty good grain but certainly not full fiddleback for $40. I sell my stabilised good fiddleback Gidgee knife scales for $30 a set/block 45x25x150mm

140x250x100 is 0.0035m³. At say $50,000 for "up there" figure, that would be about $175 for that piece, but there is one CERTAIN thing - without pics you'll never sell it for a premium price.

So, sight unseen, and for "middle of the road figure", and given the dimensions may only suit handles or knife scales, perhaps $75-125?? (no, I'm not a potential buyer)

    Default thanks

I reckon it fell through or someone else brought it, haven't heard any more.

But I will keep in mind the figures you guys put up, for future reference.

Like you said, it all comes down to what you want to pay.

    Thanks

Since you got me all excited I quickly sanded a portion of my piece of gidgee to see what lies beneath. It's actually got some figure. Very difficult to photograph tho! For 40 bucks i'm very happy .

You have to remember as the pieces get smaller the handling costs start to govern rather than the timber itself

Some ringed gidgee from Trend soon to be a baroque-pitched piccolo flute:
