Thread: Free wood - South Yarra

I was driving along Domain Road, South Yarra a couple of days ago and saw some tree fellers removing a large Cypress Elm (at least that's what I think it was - very strong pine/resin smell with very sticky sap). Went past again today and there is a large pile of wood stacked against the fence waiting for the scavengers to remove it.

I can't guarantee that it is not reserved, but I think it was very likely left there for anyone to pick up. That certainly seems the practice in Melbourne at least.

There are lots of rounds about 600mm long by about 300mm round and quite a few larger width pieces from the base which are only about 300mm long (along the grain).

It seems identical to some wood I got from one of our local parks when they felled a couple of very old trees. The main trunk was around 3 metres high and then split off into several almost vertical branches. Lovely grain pattern with lots of "birds-eye" formed by small branches (twigs really) coming off the main branches.

It is about 100+ metres from the east end of Domain Road near the top of the hill on the north side.
