Default The genus Tabebuia has been broken up in three genera

    Hi Folks,

Virtually all of the common Tabebuia timbers have been moved into a new genus. The old genus Tabebuia is contained in

    1) Tabebuia - 67 species

    2) Roseodendron - 2 species
    3) Handroanthus - 30 species

    The rearrangement was printed here:
http://depts.washington.edu/phylo/Ol...tead_2007b.pdf and you and find a nice listing of these genera here: World Checklist of Selected Plant Families: Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew . The interesting genus here is Handroanthus. It contains virtually all of the commercially important members of the old genus Tabebuia. To non-botanical types, these are the timbers called "Ipe."

    Exclamation

At it again Runge!! Keeping us informed!!

I was interested in growing a Tabebuia as a flowering tree. Can't remember exactly which one but it would have grow too large for the area i wanted to plant it in.

Apparently they grow naturally over large areas of Peru.

AAs for Ipe, they also have beautiful flowers, the yellow being very yellow. The timber is also beautiful and much admired in Brazil where it is used for flooring. Yummy stuphph.
