Grays Auction - exotic wood
For info - I jsut got an e-mail from Grays auctions advertising an auction of exotic wood slabs, boards, burls etc. Kinda hard to get into it if you are not in Vic.
Try this link if you want to check it out.

I've got nothing to do with this auction, just thought others may be interested.

Dave,
Travel to the end of the tram tracks in Sydney Road, keep going north along the Hume Highway for about 1.5 hrs to Euroa & turn right. Strathbogie is about 30kms.

Looking at the catalogue, doe's anyone have an idea of what the going rate would be? I'm new to this ,so an indication would be appreciated.

What a weekend
I went up on Saturday and now am a lot poorer. The auction prices were not cheap but this was the only opportunity for buying African mahogany in slab form that I know of.
There are a couple of places around Melbourne where Soul of the Tree have shown their finished products, their mahogany tables are something to see to believe. For a year I was in serious lust with this timber and now I have enough to satisfy even my deepest desires for mahogany. Normally this is the sort of timber I cannot buy, it comes from the destructive logging of forests in Africa. However this particular lot came from streetscape trees in Darwin planted after World War 2 and were going to be chipped and burnt by the council till it was salvaged by Soul of the tree.
Sigh, I can't wait for my new workshop to be built, in the meantime it is in storage in a farm shed.

African Mahogany Slabs?
I know this is the $64, $640, $6400, $64000 dollar question but.... Has any one got a line on how much for African Mahogany slabs in Melbourne. I have an offer from a kiln dried supplier from Darwin for as many as I can sell and I said I would sound out a few people - this board included.

Well thats $64,000 too little.
Pretty cheap is it? that would put a 3000 by 1000 by 50 at about $10? Is that rough cut, dry, dressed?

So if you have a price in mind why are you fooling around instead of quoting the price you want???
