    Default Help needed - Brisbane

    Hi guys,

I'm trying to find someone who could cut my 6 pieces of Porta 30mm x 30mm x 1.2m Pine DAR Timber, 45 degrees diagonally throughout the length so I can get 6 x triangular based 1.2m pine DAR.

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/porta-30...imber_p0021342

Bunnings said they can't do it and I don't know anyone with the table saw that could cut it.

does anyone have any advice where to look for it?

    many thanks!

    V

I don't have a table saw either but you can probably buy that as a molding. If Bunnings don't have it try VSH timbers in Virginia.

Anyway, any hardware store with a good range off building materials should have tri quad.

Anyone with a bandsaw could cut your wood length-wise for you. Just tilt the table to 45 degrees and your off. If you don't have access to a bandsaw then try your local Mens Shed, its the sort of tool the Woodies would have.

Where in brisbane are you ? I could run it through my tablesaw but it'd have to wait until after Christmas.

I might check VSH. Convex Scotia molding looks like it could do. I don't want to spend much tough and I already have 1x pine that needs a cut.
BTW, I am gonna try to build corner bass traps - triangles of earthwool stacked floor to ceiling,
and I would use that wood to support plywood on top and at the bottom of a trap. All should be wrapped in some fabric afterwards.

You are right, but 19mm might be too thin.

can I suggest the OP clarify what they are after.

    30 x 30 cut diagonally will not deliver 2, 30 x 30 x 21(H) triangular sections.
If the need is for a quantity of 30 x 30 x 21(H) sections, the OP may need to start with a wide 30 mm thick board.

The OP wants to turn 6 x 1.2m square section into 6 x 1.2m triangular section. Its fairly clear.
He's not expecting to turn 6 into 12.

I would like this https://www.bunnings.com.au/porta-30...imber_p0021342 to be split 45 degrees length wise so that I can get
two triangular based sticks 1.2m long.
I would then add one more, and those three would connect two triangular plywood boards. I would then cut Earthwool in triangles and fill that frame with it to make an acoustic bass trap.

    btw, what is OP

is this an option ? https://www.bunnings.com.au/porta-19...lding_p0080981

if the triangular boards are equilateral, slicing a square section at 45 degrees will not give you the 60 degree equilateral triangle needed to connect the boards.

of course you are responsible for your own safety, but I wouldn't attempt the requested 45 degree diagonal cut a 30 mm square section without using a jig. Far safer to take a 45 degree slice off a wider board.

Yes I agree with you. I wouldn't attempt it.

Hopefully the OP has found a suitable ready made moulding.
