Be patient with me - most people I know from South Australia, including myself, mainly only get to play with Radiata Pine.
For the past 15 years I have had 10 X 1.8 metre lengths of a pine that I don't recognise with my limited knowledge. This piece is 127mm X 24mm and there are 30 growth rings in 25mm. The old surface is quite a honey colour, with the newly word surface being very light. It does have an odour when worked but, once again, I can't recognise it; certainly not like fresh Huon. Any ideas what it might be?

I think you should bundle it up and send it to me, and don't listen to what anyone else here has to say

Definitely not radiata, the rings are too fine for that.

Celery usually weighs more than radiata if both timbers are equal in dryness.

It didn't come from a packing crate did it? Looks a lot like some of the Northern Hemisphere pine (from Europe and Asia) that was used fairly extensively for crates in days gone by. You still do see it used occasionally in pallets for heavy goods from Taiwan. Nice stuff.

Maybe it is huon then, seeing as you bought it as that. Huon can vary enormously in weight from one tree to another. Otherwise I'd say celery as I've seen the odd bit of celery show up in packs of huon. Only thing that is doubtful about it being celery is the weight. Celery does have its own particular odour but I do not know how to describe it.
