Default Can anyone identify what pine type this is?

    Hi,

I just bought a property that has vinyl flooring and had always wondered what the original floorboards looked like. Managed to undercover the original floorboards in one of the built in wardrobe and below are the pictures.

The property was built sometime late 1980's or early 1990's. From the pictures, can anyone identify the type of pine? There are some damage marks and should I be concerned?

Cypress Pine! Really?? Wow. This is a pleasant surprise.

Should I just strip the vinyl away and sand + re-polish the floorboards?

With the extent of bug damage I'd say it's not Cypress, perhaps hoop, slash or one of the others, there are a few.

    Thumbs up

Agree with neil. There seejms to be too little colour for it to be Cypress.

Sand a bit and have a sniff. That will sort it out.

Even easier way to see if it's Cypress - say some cross words to it - if it cracks up it'll be Cypress.

I reckon its cypress, by the knots and the stripes of colour. The insect damage looks like termites have hit it through something else but turned back, leaving that blotchy deposit. Had something silmilar happen to my timber stash, they chomp through the tasty gear but run along cypress and wrc and other timber leaving evidence of their visit.
Anyway, a thumbnail should be able to tell the difference between cypress and softer pine.
