If the wood is finished can you scrape an area back to bare wood ?

there is also an ash test. Burn a small sliver -- Karri leaves a white ash. Jarrah leaves a black ash.

Looks like some Meranti I have. How heavy is it?

Yes it does look very like Pacific Maple aka Meranti. It's a fairly light timber from South East Asia. It's often used for facing and frame material on ply hollow core doors. In the old days it used to be cheap, but as we all know nothing is cheap these days not even the dreaded Pinus Radiata.

That picture with the pinkish hue does look like Karri.

I have some pacific mapple, it looks lighter in colour? The one on the right is pacific mapple,
