Leather wood burnisher | Australian wood similar to cocobolo
Hi. This is my first post on this forum. I’m wanting to make a wood leather burnisher from an Australian wood with similar properties to cocobolo. The burnisher attaches to a bench grinder and spins at at around 2000rpm. It has various channels in it that you use to “burnish” leather. I plan to make it on my father inlaw’s lathe so I have access to tools.
I don’t know a lot about wood so am after suggestions on what wood to use please.

Pretty much any hard wood will do. I have one made from jarrah, I think, and it works great.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

Thanks China and NCArcher for your replies.
My father inlaw who owns the lathe told me he has a lot of iron bark which is a hardwood too. Do you think it would be ok or should I try and source the jarrah?

Ironbark should be fine. Sand up to a high grit once you form the grooves. It's the heat from the friction that burnishes the leather so the smoother the better.
