Looking for long wood blanks/turning blanks
Hey all, I'm looking for long wood blanks of various wood types. For example walnut, cedar, cherry, maple, willow, yew etc.
The size I'm looking for is similar to pen blanks but much longer around 15 inches long. I live in Brisbane and am just looking for either a local wood supplier or somewhere I can ship interstate that won't cost an arm and a leg.
And help is appreciated!

Hi Ryan, I was holding off … did not want to be the first to respond.
There are many that could help you with squares about 1” x 15”
I can provide squares that are in the less common species, Australian & Exotic in size from approx 20 -30 mm square x 350-400 mm long. Most are colourful or pretty in some way. From your list I can offer black walnut, cherry, maple and yew … plus lots more.
As Crocy says it helps if we knew your wishes / intentions and budget as low costs woods are available and high priced (pretty) woods as well.
Cheers Euge

I'm on the Gold Coast at Nerang and a wood collector of numerous species from Aus and around the world. Not quite sure what you'd want 20-25mm sq x 15" for but I have 11.5t in pen blanks/turning blanks/slabs/chunks/small logs etc to choose from plus timber/resin hybrids. I do not however cut a strip off large stuff to sell, they are sold as is, although I can cut to size after purchase.
Welcome to come around and have a look, PM for detailsNeil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

That's awesome and thanks for your reply, i'm fairly new to wood working and I carve and sell wands (harry potter wands mostly) through my online store https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/685381919 those wood species are perfect and i'm definitely interested but as i'm new to this i'm not familiar with wood prices.. I should also note that I don't use power tools / a lathe so the thinner the wood the better i'm probably looking for 3 or 4 wood blanks of each species so maybe around 20 blanks in total? (depending on how much it will all cost of course) hope this info helps and thanks again for replying guys!

How do you make the wand without a lathe?
I can cut your blanks to what ever size you want from what ever species, but you would be buying the whole blank/log etc. Price depends on species and size of log/blanks, anything from $10 to $1000 (some are super rare)Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

Hi Ryan,
Like Neil I can provide squares in many species from the more common, to less common species, Australian & Exotic, in sizes from approx. 20 mm square x 380 mm long. As for prices many would be around $10 and species they can be selected based on this price. Others can be selected at the $15 or $20 range. Most would be colourful or pretty in some way. As mentioned those from your list (black walnut, cherry, maple and yew) would be either $10 or $15 etc.
I'm in Vic so anything from me would have to be sent eg by satchel eg 3 kg for $15. But quite a few blanks would fit in such a satchel. Maybe 10?
You can always PM for more detail.
Cheers, Euge
