There is a very good chance that the tree will die in circa seven years if the strike was sufficient.
Apparently, this is not unusual.

They are widening the Princes Highway down Nowra way and it is a shame to see the mature gums being turned into mulch
They don’t salvage any of it , it all goes through the shredder...... such a waste

What is sad about a natural event? Trees propagate and die naturally, it's a marvel of nature to watch the permutations of that and what you can read into the grain of a tree that has withstood the ravages of time. What is sad is the unnatural clearing of trees to make way for an ever faster expanding population that nobody really has any idea how to fix.

What saddens me about this is that I won't be there when someone decides it has to go...
...probably, as has been said, to a chipper.

It ended burning itself completely out. A pile of cinders like a briquette!
I was saddened to see what must have been an old tree "lost" like this. Its just my greed. I know that nature is nature.... but...
We need, as a species, to plant billions and billions and billions of trees every year or we have doomed this planet.
