Maple Silkwood
Maple Silkwood...'Flindersia Pimenteliana'
Occurs in Northern Queensland and New Guinea primarily within Highland and Coastal rainforest
Very similar timber qualities as Qld Maple ('Flindersia Brayleyana')...colour and grain has subtle differences!
Leaves are smaller and seed pods pricklier than Qld Maple...bark is slightly thinner too.
Paddock grown trees often suffer from 'pocket rot' and are internally defective...yielding low recovery rates unfortunately.
However this species can produce the most delightfully figured timber one will ever witness...here's some pics...MMMapleman
