    Default Masters selling red cedar

Hello, I went to my first Master's store in Booval, Brisbane yesterday and saw that they sold red cedar boards. Can anyone please advise on where this timber comes from? I am familiar with the Qld Red Cedar which is a deepish red , very soft timber difficult to get now.
    regards,

    Dengy

    Dengue,

Sorry to disappoint - but what Masters are selling is Western Red Cedar, not Australian Red Cedar. Western Red Cedar is a softwood that is native to the west coast of North America, whilst the Australian (or Queensland) Red Cedar is a (now rare) hardwood in the mahogany family.

    FYI ....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thuja_plicata (Western or Pacific Red Cedar, Giant or Western Arborvitae, Giant Cedar, or Shinglewood)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toona_ciliata (Cedar (a name shared by other trees), Toon or Toona, Burma Cedar, Indian Cedar, Moulmein Cedar, Australian Red Cedar or the Queensland Red Cedar. It is also sometimes known as Indian mahogany.) I just wish that our forefathers had been considerate enough to leave us plenty of Aussie Red Cedar......
