    Default Mystery Timber

    Hi all,

Got this nice straight bit of timber a while back and I've got no clue as to what it is. It's quite nice to work with but the grain has a course feel to it, and it turns a deep reddy brown when finished with oil. I would relate its weight to something like NG rosewood. Any ideas?

    Thanks

Unfortunately NGR has quite a weight range Density 0.55–0.9 g/cm³. Does this timber have a distinctive smell? Could possibly be something like cigar box cedar if it is quite light, given the end grain.

Rough calculations came up with a density of something around ~550-650 kg/m3
It does have a sort of smell about it, kind of a vanilla type of fragrance
