    This is outstanding!
    Love the quilting in that one piece. That's a serious gold mine for luthiers!

    Yeah dark as also. Got quite a few blocks like that. Unfortunately, I was so intent on cutting the log on the quarter for the compression figuring that I failed to notice what was happening on the back sawn face. so that extra good quilting is on narrow faces mostly (50mm). Oh well its all a learning curve and I will be ready for it next time.

    gday everyone, tas ,that is some fine wood you have there,do you have small size blocks that could be used to make knife handles and would they need to be hardend,great photo's

    It is beautiful wood and makes really good knife scales. It is a good Acacia hardwood, so doesn't need hardening, but I always recommend all knife scales to be stabilised.

    Im cutting a big old blackwood at the moment that has some extra nice quilted figure. I couldnt resist putting a little slab through the planer.
