Default Outdoor Table Slab Moisture content.

I have just been asked if you are making an out door setting with a slab top does it matter if the moisture content is between 20 and 30 percent if it is oiled regularly so as to slow down the drying process. To me if it is outside it will absorbe moisture through winter and dry out in summer with the extreme heat in some places typicaly in SA where the question came from.
Looking forward to your opinions.........Thanks Tasman.

I'm no expert here, but I would think that this type of intense drying process will cause severe checking/splitting and maybe even warpage.

Not sure if the regular oiling would help much.

The more knowledgable advice to follow will be interesting.

Just make sure that if the top is a wide slab rather than boards that you allow it room to move. I.e: slot the lower screw holes that attach the slab to the rails so the slab can expand and contract with moisture content changes.
