The problem is that there are no manufacturers or importers of Paulownia ply in Australia. You will need to arrange importation yourself and take your chances on the quality.

Personally, I would go with either quality Gaboon or Hoop ply from local suppliers. All the Hoop is high quality as it's manufactured locally, but it is heavier than Gaboon and only available in the smaller metric 2400x1200 size.

If Gaboon, I would personally only recommend the French made Joubert which is available from the sole importer, Denman Marine. It is available in a larger sheet 2500 x 1220 size. A bigger 3100 x 1530 size is also available. Other suppliers of Gaboon in Australia offer a variable quality Chinese or Asian Gaboon ply that may or may not meet the BS1088 standard stamped on it, and may not comprise 100% Gaboon veneers.

The ply from Denman is plan A, until I read the posts in this thread by Dufuyun.

That is great. I knew Michael had considered Paulownia for boat building but did not realise he had something on web site. I'll have a look at it soon as it should be a help answering queries from my customers.

I didn't answer the plywood question as I don't sell it and the early information was that what was being imported was not suitable for marine purposes. Having said that a Qld. Gold Coast business mentioned in the early posts of this thread may be able to help. The name is Five Star Finishes and the phone number is 07 55343511. Good luck.
