Pine Laminated Sheet 36 to 40mm thick
Hi All
Currently I am making a product that I CNC out off 36mm laminate pine sheets. How I get to 36mm is to purchase 1800x600x18mm sheets from Bunnings and them glue them together. I am trying to find sheets that are already between 36 to 40mm in thickness to same me time on the gluing process. In the UK they are plenty but can't find any in AUS. Any idea of someone maybe?
Regards

Call around to local sheet goods suppliers, they will be the best ones to ask. I've found some thick CD ply on the East coast, but freight to you will probably be a killer.
Keep in mind that anything that thick will be full size sheets (2400 x 1200) that weigh upwards of 60kg.

Ply is easy to get but I am after laminated pine panel like these, Clear Pine FJ Laminated Panel 1800 x 600 x 18mm | Bunnings Warehouse
I have phoned up a few timber suppliers locally and all can only do solid wood slabs and for my purpose it is way to expensive.

You're gonna have to tell us who BGS is because there's a whole lot of stuff showing up on google that has nothing to do with timber panels...

Well in that case he REALLY needs to clarify, because Bunnings don't do laminated timber panels in anything other than 18mm as far as I can see

I suspect 366x42 would be a glulam beam rather than a laminated panel per se. Type of glue line might be an issue.

IKEA sells 38mm laminated kichen tops.
I think Bunnings also do Kaboodle up to that too.

Checked out Ikea and Kaboodle, however they do not have pine tops, IKEA do have a lighter wood one but too expensive for my purpose.
You did give me an idea to search bench tops not just laminated sheet.

Does sound like a Glulam beam, here’s a link to Bunnings showing one at $81.46 per metre.

Ah that makes sense...except it then works out around 3x the price to get 2 panels worth of glulam :/
2x 1.8m lengths of the glulam comes to just under $300
2x 18mm thick panels comes to $92
Even allowing for the 20% extra area of 2 glulam lengths you come out behind:
Going by surface area (assuming the extra thickness is irrelevant), the glulam comes to $223/m^2 while the panels come to $85/m^2
Going by volume, the glulam comes to $5300/m^3 while the panels come to $2366/m^3
I don't see any way you come out ahead, unless my math is way off

Maybe cheaper just to buy the 18's and use some new Frontline Clamps to make them up.
3 of the big ones would do nicely - once you are done you can sell them for almost what was paid
