Poplar timber
I used to buy poplar boards from Masters. Now, after the Master's demise, I lost the supplier.
Does anyone know where I can get the poplar timber from?
I love working with this timber and I made a number of items of furniture from this timber. It machines beautifully and looks great in clear lacker finish.
As a matter of interest, famous musical instruments, Stradivari etc., were made from poplar timber.

I would be interested to but from the lack of responses I'd say it's no longer available in Aus.

I used up the last of mine several years ago - bought a part-pack from a local timber merchant who was doing a clear out, but I know that he never stocked it again. Very nice timber to work with, and can impart some very interesting greenish tints, but the stuff I had did move a bit.
Masters didn't stick around long enough for me to buy any from them.

I am planning to start milling some poplar as there is a lot of it growing on the farms around here. It gets nice burl grain too. Are you just after the plain stuff? I will post a thread in the next couple of months when I get some milled.
Jason.

I milled some plantation grown poplar (some around 1000mm diameter) some years ago in Far North Qld
A few of the trees produced tiger stripe fiddleback throughout and milling them was a delight!
A very worthwhile cabinet/instrument wood in my opinion...MMMapleman

No worries. I am in Tasmania. Delivery for lengths under 1200mm is usually $25 for up to 25kgs within Aus via sendle. Any pictures of stuff made from it?

Various poplar species are certainly a valid and welcome step up from pine, for sure.
Overall they are nicer to work with than meranti/luan/phillipine mahogany due to the closed grain
The greenish asian poplar is the least desirable imho.,
