Purple Gidgee
Hello all,
I have an opportunity or problem! I have dibs on a couple of cubic metres of slabbed Purple Gidgee (7 years old) that is way in excess of my requirements / budget. Some are up to 1.6m long.
I am investigating taking a stand at the Working With Wood Show in Brisbane, to sell part and offset costs, but need to gauge interest.
I envisage pieces selling from $20-$30 for craft pieces to $300 for some of the slabs, is this the right venue?
Is there interest in this timber? I think it is beautiful however very hard, so to a degree, limited in appeal.
Your thoughts would be appreciated.
Regards Billy

Would love more details, what sizes are craft pieces?

Yep, there is always interest in nice timber, put some dimensions on it.
The other thing you can do is to work out a fair price is to add up all you costs (including your labour) & put a fair % on top of it & then work out your prices from there.
The fiddley bits that thake more time need more mark up.Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

I love Gidgee... (replying to this thread so I can watch it) If you decide to sell some on the forums I would be interested in pen blank sizes or small boards which can be cut down to pen blanks.
CorbsIt's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

If you have a stall at the WWW show, I'll certainly take a look, one of my favourite timbers for sure.

Don't forget that a stall at the WWS will cost a fair bit.

Not this Time!
OK,
1. The WWW show costs $1,000 for a 6m x 6m.
2. The timber has not been sorted and measured.
3. There wasn't outstanding interest (except for you Vern!)
So sometime in the near future, by the end of May, I should be able to offer the discerning few, some select pieces. My source also has;
" around 28 cubic meters of sawn Red Cedar & about another 5 -
7 cubic meters of slabbed Red Cedar (some of them are excellent)
Plus There is sawn Brigalow up to 7" x 12ft x 1" & other Western hardwoods."
As soon as it is sorted, sized and costed, I will be back in touch.
Regards
Billy

Interest in purple gidgee
Hi Billy, By accident we have discovered your section on purple gidgee. The first question, do you still have your supply of purple gidgee ? We have been to the Maleny Woodfest this weekend and it may of been a more vialable alternative place to sell your timber than at the Brisbane show. The costs are much smaller. Our friends are the organisers and we are very confident that you would of sold your entire supply on the weekend. My husband and I are quite interested in obtaining some of the timber ? Do you still have some ?
Cheers Gordon and Rose

Billy,
Are you going to be at the Brisbane wood show this weekend?
I heard there was a slab (or two) at the Maleny Wood Expo so hopefully you didnt sell out.
PM me if you want to pre-sell some.
Cheers
Pete

Dont know if you ever got around to cutting any up but I would be very interested in a craft piece or pen blanks. I will be glad to pay for shipping to the states.
