Queensland Beech
That's Beech not Beach.
I've been offered slabs of Qld Beech also known as White? Beech. All I know is that it takes a long time to season and it has been used for boat decking. Can anybody help me with more information on its properties , eg stability, prone to cracking, how it responds to various finishes, does it have much grain pattern, in a word can I use it for furniture or do I redirect the wood to a boatbuilder?
Thanks Ken

When I was a little tacker my father aquired some White Beech and built a few bits and bobs from it. The main thing I remember was the gate for the top of the steps leading down from the verandah.
The timber was never painted, it never split, cracked, checked, twisted or warped. I'd say that the time it was there spanned about 20 years.
He gave a piece to me when I was in High School and I made what I thought was an interesting lamp. It had an eliptical Aus. Red Cedar base and an elliptical frontpice made from the Beech.
I remember the timer being a joy to work.

QLD Beech, White Beech: Very stable, was used for draw sides in very expensive furniture because of it's stability.... also contrasts well with Red Cedar. Also sought after by wood carvers as it a good timber to work.
As you say, used for decking on yachts these days if it can be found.
Very good timber to work & machines like a dream, takes finish readily & polishes to a good lustre.
