    Default Quilted maple

Mapleman posted a thread a while back... few months at least anyway... skited about his maple. I said I mighta had a bit of that fancy figured maple stuff myself and I'd get some pictures.

Things sometimes take longer then expected here at the sawdust factory, and the job of re-organising the number 2 timber store heads that list. And as always... the stuff I want is right at the back behind everything else. Want Oak... it's at the back. Reorganise to get the oak and the next guy will want Alder, which is now at the back. And so it goes, including the 300 little packs of leftover stuff that we never get time to sort through to put into other packs to actually tidy the joint up so we just shunt them back and forth with the forklift.

But anyway... today I pulled one of the packs of figured maple, and grabbed a picture or two. Just a little pack of maybe 3/4 a cube.... but the best billet of maple I ever did see, quilted from end to end on nearly every board, and well... a lot of those boards are 500 wide

    FANTASTIC LOOKING WOOD
Aint Mother Nature grand ,makes you almost feel like turning religious [of a green persuasion ] and running amongst the trees naked ,although the Boss insists I wear shoes if I use the chain saw.

    DON'T DO THAT!!!!!

Where there be maple, there be wait-a-while and maybe stinging tree... and trust me you better hope you hit the wait-a-while first. (Yes, there ARE worse things then being strung up by the testicles like a fruit bat on a barbed wire fence)

I personally prefer Silkwood or Dirran over Maple. Best I've ever seen though was fiddlebacked red bean (and I know where to find a stand of them) - shame it's such a drama to work with.

That lots not for sale at this point: I've got it on a very slow drying schedule and it's going to take a while. I do have some more though thats seasoned, or seasoned enough though.
