    Default Recycling Rimu

I am thinking of demolishing a 1920's all Rimu wood house so I can recyle the wood for use on another, mainly for the floor and sarking. Is this such a good idea? I've been told that in trying to remove the Rimu, it will just all split - fact or fiction?

Hei Rosco - what if it splits? Make smaller stuff! Rimu is such great timber and is scarce as the proverbial rocking horse shyte so go for it!

Go for it son. You will lose some of it but reasonable care will see you with plenty of timber. You will maybe find other species there too - matai flooring (to die for) totara in teh window jambs and some solid doors, perhaps kauri beams etc.
IMHO the timber is better used for furniture than another structure - try driving a 4" nail into a stud!

    Cheers
