Red Cedar new shoots.
An old mate told me that by spotting the red colour in the canopy the timber getters found the Red Cedars.
Ours has just produced these.
Bit hard to observe on the main tree so I’ve left a self seeded sapling on the drive hoping to photograph the tip moths when they arrive.H.Jimcracks for the rich and/or wealthy. (aka GKB '88)

We still use that method today.
The tip moth will only lay on sun exposed leaves, so it is important to make sure the tree is in open, constant sun light.
You must be the only bloke in creation that wants to attract tip moth.
I assume you place no value on the seedling, as once the tip moth finds it your tree will be ruined.
To minimise tip moth attack a dense shade cloth over the entire tree will replicate the under story of the natural environment. Young cedars are highly susceptible to moth attack and rely solely on the dense shade under the canopy until such time that they break through the top of the canopy as mature trees. The tree is still vulnerable, but due to its much greater branch size is more able to withstand the inevitable attacks.

When we planted it 30 years ago I had it in a shade cloth tube until it was about 12’ high.
A Sally Wattle self seeded beside it and shot up over it which encouraged it to get going.
The Moth took about 10 years to find it and it was a tree by then not a shrub.
The sapling in the drive I should take out, its only there to observe at a convenient height.
Im back in town if you still want that adze.
