    Merbein
    Arbuthnot
    Bonum
    O'Briens
    Gulpa?

I am looking for ones in Vic, Southern NSW or even SA.

There used to be a mill in Echuca on the right hand side of the road prior to crossing the bridge towards Moama. No idea of name or if it even still exists. I usually drop into a guy down the old port area when I visit the folks, he doesn't mill but sells slabs and bits of RRG. Going to be down there this weekend but not sure if I will get to drop in this time around.

Looks like you've nailed all the specialist RRG millers.....only sawmill I know of in SA is the one in Nuriootpa...but I'd be surprised if they did RRG.
Ours is not to reason why.....only to point and giggle.

That mill is Bonum Sawmills. When passing through the area a few years back I bought some highly figured KD redgum from them. Beautiful timber and their service and prices were good too.

    They also cut redgum veneers.

The tree huggers and the drought have shut down a lot of places, The redgum out of NSW is bordering on firewood. Arbruthnot is the only one farming the gums but as Redgum needs flooded once in about every 5 years the river gums are suffering and stressed trees get attacked by borers so you have to make some allowances.

Bought a RRG hall table from him about ten years back, felt really bad, my wife is maltese (Which means she wouldn't pay the full price for anything even a funeral), and she screwed the guy right down Started at $320ish we left with it for about $140 and she even got him to polish it up for us.

Just had a look at the Yellow Pages and it looks like the saw mill that I am thinking of in Echuca is Murray River Sawmills on Anstruther St.

I can't find any details (maybe Evans Sawmills?) on the place in the river port area that sells slabs and some furniture. I haven't had a good look at their prices but they seem to be ok although the furniture in there is a bit rough for my liking. They used to have some pens that looked like they were turned with a screwdriver.

Actually there's plenty of good RRG still available and most of it is coming out of NSW (well it is at my local)....I just roll up to the local mill and order what 1st grade I need. Biggest hassle is waiting for the bigger bits - good longish (up to 3m) lengths of 125mm square requires some paitence as most of the good gear is going into the railway sleeper contracts which have to be filled first. If I can't wait then I hunt through the 2nd and landscape grades and pick the good ones...

As for the tree huggers knocking over the RRG industry......nope....the shift to concrete sleepers and the undeserved reputation as a poor furniture timber kneecapped the RRG industry long before the so-called tree huggers and this drought wandered into frame.

I honestly expect the local mill here to shut within a couple of years.....add to that the failure of many hardwood plantations....I don't expect to be able to score much reasonably priced furniture grade timber for much longer....shame really

I think there is one at Corryong (NE Vic), don't know its name. I think the owner is a member here though.
