Default Red table top with density like steel

I love this table top (?). It is so red but the density makes it a challenge to lift. The original owner doesn't remember where he got it but I aim to sand and protect it again before find a table base for it. Can anyone help me identify it?

OK I have sanded the bottom side and posted 3 photo's. Looks like the red wasn't natural

    Cheers,
    Nick

The plan will be to put this top with a red tint onto a silky oak base with a blonde shellac When completed I think it will be converted into my desk
