    Question Seeking Advice

    Hi Everyone,

At the risk of covering old ground, I'm hoping some of you more knowledgeable folks can lend some advice on a project I am about to begin.

I recently built a buitiful stone wall at my residnece. In order to finish the wall I will need to hang a pedestrian gate on one end of the wall and a rear property access double gate on the other.

My qustion is: Can a tounge and groove Victorian style gate be used in an outdoor area or am I risking distortion and continued headache with wood that does not stand still? I am wanting to build gates, with no gaps to maintain privacy but about half the carpinters I speak to shy away from tounge and groove construction due to warpage. I must admit I dont see many in the Perth area, but in other parts of the world they do exist! Perhaps its the type of material that is the key...I can only hope someone in this form can help shed some light on my situation. Many thanks for your time.

T&G doesn't give much room for movement. Lap and gap would be a better option.

I made a tongue and groove gate across a driveway years ago. Fixed to a galv RHS frame it worked well never seemed to move or jam or anything, pretty heavy thing though. I'd make sure you fixing point for hinges were secure
