The Smell of Huon Pine
Had my first touch of huon today! Smelt and felt a nice piece of pine - can't say I've lost my huon virginity though, 'til I've made some mess with it.

Personally Its my favorite timber, espically like the smell, and just a wonderful timber to work with

It is one of my favourites. Huon pine “kickass”. It is too expensive though.

If radiata is the cheddar cheese of pines, huon is a nice, aged edam.
Very soft, lovely smell and delicious results. I wouldn't make a dining table out of it for reasons besides price, but for small boxes and turnings, oh yeah!

Huon
I have a piece here that was given to me by some friends for looking after their house. They went to tassie for a holiday and brought back this piece that was meant to be used for sitting you pts or other hot cooking utensiles on. To good for that and the smell is just amazing from this one piece of pine. Would love some more of it to work with.

I've a small piece I shaped into the shape of a piece of cheese, to make a knife-rest for a cheese platter with. Lacquered the top'n'sides, but left the base unfinished just so's I could scratch it to release the smell. I still haven't gotten around to cutting the slots for the knives.
Still, it must be one of the most handled items in our display cabinet. People just can't resist the scratch'n'sniff...

Ive lost my Huon vergintiy due entirely to young Scotty... thank you again young fella!! (ahem have more Jarrah if needed can do another swap?? please?? nah not beggin... nah not bloody much I aint!!! )
Beautifull stuff and will NEVER EVER knock an offer of some back!! NEVER!! I love this timber... so easy to work to smooth and gorgeous to touch an the aroma!! Wonderous!!... I had heard a lot about it but until I tried it didnt really believe any timber could have such a delightful smell and feel
I still have a few wee bits left Scotty so if your gettin some more remember your ol mate down here in Brunswick (note have F100 will travel!!!) Im tryin to use it sparingly as an odor creator before I start anything in the shed just bung a bit in the lathe and give it a couple of gentle cuts... oooooooooooohhhhhhhhhh and you gotta watch the drool factor its out the flamin window!:eek:Believe me there IS life beyond marriage!!! Relax breathe and smile learn to laugh again from the heart so it reaches the eyes!!
