Solution to storing timber offcuts needed
I have occasionally been accused of being a hoarder, however I prefer to think of myself as someone who wisely retains and stores things for a rainy day.
I'm sure many of you will agree that there is no better feeling than when needing a piece of "something" to finish a job, you happen to have the perfect piece that you saved three years ago and kept all that time. Justifies the whole thing
My problem is how to store the stuff so it's not in the way and I can find what I want, when I want.
All up I'm talking about 2 to 3 m3 including everything from a 1m long piece of FJ Pine quad to 2500 x 600 x 50mm thick natural edge maple benchtops waiting to be recycled. Mostly it is leftovers from several renovation jobs plus bits and pieces. Currently most of it is sitting on pallets or bolsters which can be a pita.
I'm thinking there must be some innovative solutions that some of you have found. Any suggestions for ways that are reasonably quick and easy to make/get and not too expensive would be very welcome. Some pics of how you've set up would be good too.

For stuff shorter than 800mm I used drawers on wheels that fit under benches like this.
For stuff up to 2m long I have a couple of shallow racks made from pieces of steel mesh that are suspended from the shed roof. For longer that that it goes under the house where I can store up to 6m lengths on the floor bearers.
I also have similar drawers and racks for metal, plastic etc

The Storage.
Hi,
For the sizes you have mentioned, I have seen a Chap had 3 pieces of 2 x 1in. Arc Mesh, hanging down & bolted overhead, at whatever distance apart, & as you have so many Sq. Holes, you can put them where ever you want.
The only thing is, you have to have enough room.Regards,
issatree.

I use a sheet of weld mesh with 200x200 mesh size. The sheet is bent to 90 degrees across the centre. Hangs from the shed roof in a "V". Short offcuts in the bottom, long in the top. When you get sick of it,back trailer underneath, lower one side of the mesh and the whole lot gets loaded in one go. The local craft group love it.

Thanks everyone, the weldmesh idea which I'd seen before is obviously still a good one.
I do like the V shaped idea though very lateral thinking. Think I'd have to use galvanised though with the way stuff rusts here.
Are there any more ways and means out there???????

If you get to know your local Honda dealer and can get the 4-wheeler crates off him, you can do what I've done in these pics. The crates are stackable so you can set them at different levels just by cutting the uprights to the length you want. Long stuff in lengthwise, shorter stuff across the racks and short-short bits in from both sides if you want. The only mods I made to the crates was to add one more length of steel up the middle for some extra support (you can see one standing up at the left of the first pic). Bit of old roofing iron on the crate top and some canvas to keep the weather off and you're in business.
The only mod I've made since was to put some more 2x1 RHS under one end of the roof to get the water away better and allow some ventilation around the top.
The canvas I used is waste scraps from the stuff they use to cover the grain stores out here - it's actually impregnated with capsicum or something to stop the cockies and galahs chewing through it!
