Good source for river red gum or tasmanian myrtle - Syd / South Coast
Looking at making a bed for my daughter. The timbers she is currently interested in (based on pictures she has found on internet) are river red gum, tasmanian myrtle, or Jarrah. Jarrah is pretty easy to source and I might even have enough on hand. Anyone know of good sources for red gum and tassie myrtle in Sydney / South coast area, and what the relative price difference is between these timbers? (Rough sawn in manageable sizes is ok).

Tassie Myrtle is not logged anymore, so is ridiculously expensive, if you can find it.

If your still looking I know someone who has a good supply of both. But he's in canberra here's the Myrtle he just bought back from tassie. I think the truck is 9 meters long and he had to cut about 400mm to fit it on the bed. IMG_1854.jpg

Thanks for the replies Pat and Daniel. I wasn't aware of Allwoods - good one to add to my bookmarks. Daniel, I travel to Canberra fairly frequently and will be there again in a couple of weeks, so that might be a good option. Daughter is leaning towards river red gum at the moment, but still procrastinating over everything for the bedroom renovation and furniture. Hopefully she and my wife will settle on the look she wants shortly so I can finalise a design and source the timber.

No worries he has loads of that too some really nice stuff he and I picked up from a barn near gundagai it had been sitting in the barn for 20 odd years after being cut into the sizes the farmer wanted. Think it goes 6x3, 6x2, 4x2, 3x2, 6x1 and 2x1. Some of it is highly figgered he also has slab of it if that's what your after.
