    Default Species identification WA

    Hi All,
Looking forward to perusing the forum further in the future.
In the meantime, I would like some assistance on identifying the timber in attached photos.
This timber was already cut when I got my hands on it, and stored in a house in Cottesloe which I am demolishing.

No distinct smell, hoping it's easy to identify by the bark etc

    Thanks in advance
    Nath

Unusual as it may sound (and because of location, likely isn't) the bark looks like some Blue Gum that I have growing in my woodlot.

The heartwood and bark look to be white cypress? The sap wood is very predominant though, maybe not enough knots so probably isn't.

I think it might be Marri. Is the slab surprisingly light in weight?

I think you might be right here Geoff.
Yes, for the size, about 2400 long, 80mm thick it is surprisingly light from what I would expect.

Hi Busio. You quoted the wrong person but I was watching something the other day which showed timber remarkably like your sample.

The species is Karri I believe. A hardwood from the eucalyptus family native to WA

That may be what boringgeoff meant.
