What species of wood
Hi all, just wondering if anyone would be able to tell me what species this wood is, was given some cut logs with no leaves.

Given you are in melbourne, I would say Desert Ash - grown as a street tree and also a common weed of rivers and creeks. (Fraxinus)
Nice timber for turning and burning.

Don't know what it is, but looks like the spalting is already well into it, so you should at least rough turn it or cut it roughly over sized as soon as you can. This will allow it to dry faster and stop the spalting process

I would also agree with Ash. It looks just like a piece that I have cut in the wood pile which was Claret Ash.
