I agree with you - but where I am, isn't too many good merchants around. So I've tried a few local places, to no avail.
I have hardwood sorted, I'm in good distance from a few places, Mal & Greg @ Boutique Timbers in particular.
Given the info from WoodPixel, I can see a Canberra trip coming on!
WoodPixel, may I please ask what price the 5.4 or 6m lengths typically are (approximately) please?

I'm in tomorrow to grab more, but from memory it's $24 for a 5.4
One does have to select through the pile, but as a lot of builders use them it's not really a bother to the guys at B. I normally go after 6pm, it's quiet and the bogans and whinging public servants are absent.
Edit: just looked it up. https://www.bunnings.com.au/90-x-45m...-5-4m_p8030089
It's $21.77 for 5.4 and $24.19 for a 6. They use a per-store price here and when I let it apply my location the price jumped... So here in Canberra we pay more than the default web price.

Thank you very much for the links. I always have trouble finding stuff on bunnings and supercheap websites...

My local store quotes the same price as yours when looking this up on the Internet, and selecting the right store.
So, I was going past and stopped in to see (again) what they had in case I missed something.
I found some clean, straight, high quality stuff:

I went around to the side of the next stack to see the growth rings:

These were all 2.4m lengths of 90x45 or 70x35.
In short, *nothing* around here that comes within a bulls roar of what you're finding in Canberra, WoodPixel
I think I need to make a road trip down your way...

Dude, you have to look at the 5.4 and 6m lengths. The short stuff is the junk that Is locally sourced.. Like cheddar plastic cheese!
This long stuff is very clearly a different supplier••
I dispair at the forestry management in this country. Absolutely NO VISION.
Put the long's on your trailer and use your saw (NOT your damned fancy pants dovetail thing, but a Ryoba!) And cut them in half so you can transport them. Bunnings has never minded me doing this, but then again I do go after 7pm to avoid the crowd
•• on that, I was talking to a Russian sawmill today that does Birch ply, and he said his company ALONE has 25 MILLION hectares (!!!!!) of 70+ YO trees they are harvesting. With the climate warming up and "the North" becoming accessable, he reckoned much much more will be available.
Strewth!!!!

I know where you're coming from Midnight Man, when I looked at my local last week there was not a single stick of untreated pine of any description in 5.4 or 6.0m! Everything is the crappy locally sourced Hyne stuff, yuk. Any members who can source this stuff, like woodPixel, should enjoy it while they can as it wouldn't surprise me if its availability turns out to be fairly short lived.

I agree with you! If the local store had anything over the 2.4's they have, I'd have looked at them...
Here', those lengths are like looking at Empty shelves.jpg

I've had hit and miss here in Brisbane. North Lakes Bunnings had some decent structural pine once you went over 3m. It was still radiata and didn't have oodles of growth rings, but it was relatively straight, especially when shortened. The 1.2m and 2.4m stuff were generally twisted bananas. The guys would also be pretty good about cutting the longer timber for me into ~2m lengths so I could shove it in my car, never really got charged for it either.
I've moved and unfortunately Bunnings Underwood has a fairly rubbish selection of untreated stuff, none of the longer lengths

I checked bunnings rocklea the other day. I found lots of stuff in 4.8 lengths but nothing untreated in 6m. There was 6m blue for about $21 and change. When I get a chance I'll got to bundamba and look but a lot going on atm so I'll get to it when I can. I'm also going to ask at lobb street sawmill. Proper timber suppliers and often cheaper than bunnings...

Yeah very hard to get untreated stuff here in Perth too. Bunnies has some shorts available but they’re wet as the ocean and show more twist than Chubby Checker. Long lengths are basically non existent from what I’ve seen.

Had to pick up a few things from the local Big Green Shed today and strayed in to the timber aisles. There was some untreated 90 x 35 MGP10 in about 3 metre lengths with no description or pricing on it. Looked nice! Above it in unopened packs was the same material labeled Ziegler. Proceeding to the trade counter to enquire about pricing I noted other packs of various sizes and lengths of the same stuff unopened on the floor. The girls at the trade counter advised pricing is the same as their Hyne MGP10 and that they had received the Ziegler stuff by mistake. I suggested that they should make more mistakes because the Ziegler stuff looks 100% better than the other crap they're selling.
This stuff isn't as nice as the material pictured by woodPixel above, but it's a hell of a lot better than the usual offering. I suggest any Albury members who are interested to get along and have a look.
