Sydney/Newcastle Timber Source - Hobbyist
Hey all,
I had a quick browse through the forums, but couldn't seem to find local (around Sydney/Newcastle) sources for Timber on a small scale.
I wonder if anyone can recommend places to get timber on a small scale, both DAR and rough sawn for a home hobbyist for general woodworking - furniture building.
I have gotten a couple of floor boards off ebay (blackbutt mainly) that i can have played with and build a side table. But i am after wider boards. One project on the list istrying to make a tool chest (Schwarz's one) and would prefer not to laminate 6 boards to get the right dimensions.
The places i have found (building suppliers) seem really expensive to me (although maybe i just don't know the cost) and i have calculated that it would cost over $250 to build the chest. Is $15-$20-$30 p/lm the norm?
Where do the hobbyist woodworkers of Sydney (i'm actually on the central coast) go? I'm hoping to find some sources at the up coming TWWWS, but thougt i'd through the question here too?
Thanks, Dave

Newcastle
I travel back and forwards from Sydney and the farm at Port Macquarie every 10 days or so.
Meet woodies at Maccas at Heatherbrea with whatever they want or at the BMW dealer outside Gosford or the service centre on the highway
Call me on 0407613002 or email: [email protected] with whatever you want and I'll bring it down.
For example, blackwood 200mm wide around $15/lm. Aust hardwoods $10-12 camphor natural edge boards 200-300mm wide $8-10

You could also have a look at Round 2 Timber unit 33, 54 Clyde St Hamilton North. They have all sorts of salvage timber going in and out all the time from truckloads to single pieces. Very small operators and good guys.
