Thick Veneers
Hi Everyone,
I am searching high and low for suppliers of veneers in any of the following thicknesses, 1mm 1.2mm or 1.5mm. 1.5mm would be great as I can bring it down to the desired thickness through a drum sander. I have found a few places around Australia who sell redgum and spotted gum in 2-3mm and have offered to thickness it for me.
I was wondering if any of you know of any suppliers who sell veneers in the mentioned thicknesses in a range of species. At the moment I am mainly after jarrah, tassi blackwood, tassie oak, sydney blue gum and spotted gum.
I am not fussed on location as I am happy to pay for delivery.
Thanks
Steve

I can use two 0.6. I am pressing laminated drum shells, currently each shell consists of 10plys of 0.6. Gluing up a 10ply shell is very time consuming and you can imagine there is a fair amount of glue in a shell. I wish you use thicker veneers to reduce the amount of glue in a shell to improve the overal tonal qualities of the drum shell. Plus the forming process will be much more efficient with 5ply (1.2mm veneers) or 6ply (1mm Veneers) because of the faster glue up I will be able to press two shells in each size specific form at a time.
I have managed to track down:
Spotted gum
Red Gum
QLD Maple
Tasmanian blackwood
Some thicknesses 1mm some 1.5mm. The 1.5mm veneers can be fed through a drum sander to reach the desired depth. I am trying to track down blue gum and jarrah also but so far I have had no luck. Ideally I would like to find a supplier who has a range of species and cut the veneers at at least 1.5mm even 2mm because at 2mm I can still bring it back to the desired thickness.
I believe Gunns slice Tassie Oak to 1.5mm but I am still waiting to hear back from them. I am also still waiting to hear back from their plant in WA regarding the jarrah. In the meantime does anyone know of any suppliers who can help me out.
Thanks
